NKS Transludica is the five painting series I created for the October 2003 NKS Mojave installation, two of which are in private collections.  This was an experiment using dripped acrylic paint on large 2' x 4' aluminum panels from the local recycling scrap yard.  The problem was how I could use reactive materials to evoke the evolution of an NKS 2D cellular automaton.  Additionally I wanted to resurrect a medieval (700AD) technique from Constantinople called Pictura Translucida with which monks used transparent resin mastic or lacquers and transparent pigments on polished metals to play with the light... Fiat Lux!
